House family
What is Future House?
A 2010s evolution of house with metallic synth bass and big-tent drops.
Future house is a Dutch-led 2010s offshoot of house that combines deep-house chord stabs and UK-garage swing with the metallic, modulated synth bass and drop-driven structure of EDM. The label "future house" was popularised by Tchami and Oliver Heldens around 2013–2014. Tempos are tight at 124–128 BPM and arrangements lean on a clear build/drop pattern that maps cleanly onto big festival stages. Hexagon, Spinnin', and Heldeep helped commercialise the sound, while a more underground branch developed in parallel through Confession and Mau5trap. Though its peak commercial moment has passed, future house remains a fixture of mainstream festival programming and a frequent gateway sound for new dance fans.
