House family
What is Tech House?
A leaner, percussive hybrid of house grooves and techno restraint.
Tech house is a hybrid that strips house music down to its drum-machine essentials and borrows the tighter low end and minimal arrangements of techno. The sound consolidated in late-1990s London around DJs and producers who wanted house that worked on bigger, darker rooms without sacrificing the swing. Tracks usually sit between 122 and 128 BPM, lean on syncopated percussion, dub-influenced bass, and short vocal hooks rather than full songs. The style dominates festival main stages and Ibiza-style club programming today — it is the lingua franca of contemporary dance floors. Hot Creations, Solid Grooves, and the Dirtybird scene shaped its current peak-time form, while Defected and Toolroom continue to push the more vocal end.
