Bass music
What is UK Bass?
Catch-all term for post-dubstep, post-garage UK bass-led club music.
UK bass is a loose umbrella term for post-2010 UK club music that descends from UK garage, dubstep, and grime but doesn't fit cleanly into any of those categories. The label covers what some call "future garage," "bass music," and "post-dubstep," and is associated with labels like Hessle Audio, Hyperdub, and Livity Sound. Tempos vary widely (125–140 BPM); what unites the style is heavy, sub-rooted bass, syncopated drum patterns drawn from garage and dubstep, and an experimental sensibility. Producers like Joy Orbison, Pearson Sound, Pinch, and Pangaea are central; the form is closely associated with London's underground club circuit (Plastic People, Fabric Room 2) and overlaps heavily with the broader European bass-music scene.
