What is Afro House?
House music built around live percussion, African vocals, and tribal rhythms.
Afro house weaves African percussion, melodies, and vocal traditions into the four-on-the-floor frame of house music. Modern Afro House crystallised in South Africa and the broader African diaspora in the 2010s, with Black Coffee and Culoe De Song among its most prominent international ambassadors. Tracks foreground live drums, kalimba, and chanted vocals; tempos sit between 118 and 124 BPM with a heavier emphasis on syncopation than four-square house. The style has become a fixture of Ibiza programming through Coffee's Hï Ibiza residency and labels like MoBlack and Realm have pushed it further into festival territory. Rooted in a Pan-African sensibility, Afro house is one of the fastest-growing dance subgenres of the last decade.
